SKILLS acquisition centers are to be established in the 21 local government areas of Anambra state,Â the wife of the state Governor, Mrs Margaret Obi has said.
Addressing a delegation of Police Officers Wivesâ€™ Association, Anambra state chapter, who paid her a her visited at the Governorâ€™s Lodge, Amawbia, Mrs Obi said the centres are part of the state governmentâ€™s economic empowerment programmes to enable women and youthÂ acquire necessary skills to become self reliant.
She enjoined women to register with co-operative societies to give them easy access to the various economic schemes and disclosed that 20 widows, 20 orphans and three disabled persons would be empowered in each of the 177 communities during the second phase of her tour expected to take off soon.
The Governorâ€™s wife noted that the tour of the communities enabled the government to identify problems of the various communities, adding that such problems would be tackled accordingly.
She reminded the women that as the driving force of the society, they have an important role to play in discouraging crime by giving proper moral upbringing to their children and monitoring the kind of company they kept.
