PART of a building being constructed at the back of the office of Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala of Oyo State collapsed yesterday injuring no fewer than eight workers at the site.
Though, no one died in the incident which has become a common phenomenon in the country, Vanguard gathered that six of the workers were seriously injured and taken to State Hospital, Adeoyo, Ibadan.
But the state government said only one person was injured and that other workers at the site were still working after the incident.
A source confided in Vanguard that a vehicle belonging to the State Fire Service was parked at the site to convey those injured.
As at the time of filing this report, the source said rescue workers were still working while reporters were barred from going to the scene of the incident.
Following the collapse, the civil servants were said to have rushed to the scene to catch the glimpse of those injured but they were blocked by security agents who cordoned off the place.
Although nobody was reported dead in the embarrassing incident, eight persons were confirmed injured while six of them were rushed to the State Hospital, Adeoyo for medical attention.
The building is an extension of the office of the Head of Service which the state government started early this year to create more space.
Confirming the incident, one of the officials in the governorâ€™s office, differed on the casualty figure saying only one person was injured and he had been taken care of.
According to the impeccable source, â€œPart of the structure linking the new Head of Service block under construction at the Governorâ€™s office annex collapsed this afternoon, wounding one of the workmen.
â€œThe development is under control and measures have been taken to protect lives while construction work still goes on and measures taken to safeguard livesâ€.
