Windstorm wrecks 1,500 houses in Dutse

Dutse – Windstorm has blown off the roofs of about  1,500 houses and some school buildings in Gumel Local Government in Jigawa State, destroying property worth millions of Naira.

The Council Chairman, Alhaji Abdulkadir Ya’u Kura, who disclosed this to newsmen in Gumel, said already, as interim measure, the local government has provided some relief materials to alleviate the suffering of the displaced persons.

He said apart from the destruction of houses, the windstorm  also pulled down a number of electric poles which has further disrupted power supply in the area.

Alhaji Kura, who further disclosed that there was no loss of life, said some of the relief materials provided to the affected persons include, roofing sheets, foodstuff, and bags of cements pending when both the state and Federal Government will send more relief materials.

His words: “We can not easily quantify the extent of loss, but we believe it is running into several millions of Naira. I have directed the works department of the council to take inventory of the extent of damage.
