Vigilante group arrests two suspected ritualists in Ebonyi

ABAKALIKI—TWO suspected ritualists are now in custody of the Ebonyi state police command, following their arrest by Ezillo community vigilante  when the suspects allegedly attempted to perform ritual in Ebonyi River in Ezillo,  Isihelu council area of the state.

The vigilante that arrested the suspects alleged that the ritualists were in the prowl in the community, hypothesizing and mesmerizing Ezillo people, allegedly to pave way for the Ezzas to attack the Ezillo people without them retaliating.

Ezillo vigilante leader, Daniel Ogbuzuru, said they apprehended the suspects while they were using chicken,  salt, sugar, kola nut and other unidentified items to perform the ritual, which they lowered into the Ebonyi River they were rounded up and handed over to Isihelu Divisional Police in Ezillo.

The names of the suspected ritualists were given as Chukwuemeka Chidozie from Aguleri in Anambra State and Police Inspector Stephen Ogiji from Ngbo in Ebonyi state. Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Chris Anyanwu, yesterday, said he has  not been informed of the arrest but promised to get back to our reporter.

It was however, gathered that the two suspects, made separate statements at the Isihelu Police, admitting performing the ritual, but denied doing that with the aim of helping the Ezzas to attack the Ezillo. The two suspects also said they were not sent by anybody to perform the ritual.
