Unity Bank growing stronger—Akunyili

The Minister of Information and   Communications, Professor   Dora Akunyili, OFR, has said that Unity Bank Plc is growing from strength to strength and is a force to be reckoned with in the Re-branding of Nigeria campaign.

She made this declaration in her remarks while unveiling winners of “The 12 Ambassadors” a Reality TV talent hunt show sponsored by Unity Bank Plc in Abuja.

Prof. Akunyili lauded Unity Bank for having the foresight to take bold steps in exploring talents that otherwise would have been wasted. She urged the winners to take advantage of the bank’s interest in their growth by making the best of the opportunity and showcasing the good nature of Nigerians in all their endeavours.

The minister further commended Unity Bank for taking the initiative to grow its business, and the society by financing and supporting the talent show as part of its corporate social responsibility.

Earlier in his remarks, the Group Managing Director of Unity Bank Plc, Malam Falalu Bello OFR, FCIB, said that the bank’s involvement in the show was to foster the development of talents and capabilities in young people.

He said: “At Unity Bank we understand that economic growth is not just a matter of figures and statistics, but also a function of passion, creativity and development of the human being. This is why we are committed to the development of talents of our young people to help them lay a solid foundation for a vibrant and fulfilling tomorrow.”

Speaking on the criteria used in selecting the winners, former Managing Director of the Nigerian Film Corporation, Mr Brendan Shehu, said that individual talent, diction, carriage and body language formed part of the yardsticks for the measurement.

The brain behind “The 12 Ambassadors,” Mr. Paul Obazele, CEO of Royal Pictures Ltd, commended Unity Bank, saying that no other corporate body had the courage to believe in them.

He said that Unity Bank, “being a breed, a brand and a bank with a difference”, had the foresight to invest in the future of the nation, adding that the bank has succeeded in preserving a part of the nation’s heritage for generations to come.
Receiving the key to his brand new Kia Picanto car, Akinkpelu Ayodeji, one of “The 12 Ambassadors”, said in tears, that Unity Bank has given them a chance to carve a niche for themselves in Nollywood. The other winners are:

Adebayo Olatemide, Danladi Jane, Fahmy Hassan Mojisola, Gwamnas Dorcas, Mbock Annabell, Nnanna Uchenna, Obi Saphire, Ofoesi Princess, Ayewe Katherine, Orduen Apel and Ibiso Victor Membere.
