The power of thanksgiving

By Pastor Johnson Omomadia

Too many people are so busy querying God for not answering their prayers or not manifesting enough blessings in their lives. They think and believe that God is indebted to them. They think that God is a man that should be at their call any time they want Him. The truth, however, is that God is always God. When was the last time that you truly thanked Him just because He is God and not because of what He did for you. Do you know that so many would never open their heart to tell Him thank you. The truth of the matter is that until you start thanking God for where you are now your position will never change. Stop being an ungrateful person. God is worthy of all thanks.
The more grateful you are to God the greater your destiny becomes. What you do to God determines what He will do to you. Thank Him always and He will manifest Himself the more in your life. Listen, you will never taste greatness except you are truly grateful to God.

Where you are today is not by reason of your strength but by the hand of God. Know that every area of your life where you have excelled or succeeded in life is not by your own strength but by the strength of God. 1 Sam 2:9 says, “…..for by strength shall no man prevail”. Stop making a boast of yourself. If God did not permit it you can never prevail. Listen, everything that people celebrate and or applaud in your life is the finger of God at work. Don’t you know that no man can do these things except God be with him. Yes, the act may be marvelous like the Bible says in Ps 118:23, but know that it is the Lord’s doing. Don’t deny Him His glory. It will not be profitable unto you. It will reduce you tremendously.

You and I live purely by the mercies of God. The Bible says it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that showeth mercy. All that you own till date is as a result of His mercies. Thank Him always for His mercies that avail to you His blessings. Please know that everyone that fails to acknowledge God will be disgraced. It is a sign of pride and pride goeth before a fall. King Nebuchadnezzer was a typical example. He failed to see the hand of God in his kingship and ended up living with animals in the forest. At the end of the day he acknowledged God’s sovereignty (Dan 4). You must give God glory always in all things so that you don’t lose what you already have in your hand.

In Malachi 2:2-3, the bible says, “if ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith the Lord of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because ye do not lay it to heart….”. It is too costly not to give God thanks for any kind of blessings and achievements you may be enjoying. God it is that made it possible therefore give Him all the glory. When you thank Him, more blessings shall spring forth. You cannot be denied access to heaven’s attention.
Jesus always gave thanks in all things and tremendous results were evident. The dead was raised up (Lazarus in John 11). Five loaves of bread and two fishes was used to feed five thousand men, not mentioning women and children (john 6). Thank God for the little you have today and He will multiply the little to more than enough.

In Luke 17, ten lepers came to Jesus to be cleansed. He cleansed them all but only one returned to Him to give Him glory even though he has not been made whole. Because he returned to thank the Lord just for cleansing him, he received the miracle of wholeness. The other nine where cleansed but they were never made whole.Start thanking God consistently and He will beautify and perfect your life.

When thanksgiving becomes an integral part of your life, you will find that your attitude toward life will change. You will become more positive, gracious, loving and humble. As you give God all the glory, get ready for a life of outstanding achievements. Start to give Him thanks right now and everyday or moments in your life. God bless you and God bless Nigeria.
