By Gbenga Oke
NASARAWA State Commissioner for Information, Mr Abdullahi Aliu has stated that the 13- Point Agenda embarked upon by the administration of Governor Akwe Doma in the state is a mapped out strategy to provide roadmap for the actualisation of the aspirations of the people of the state.

In an interview with Vanguard, Aliu explained that the Akwe Doma-led administration is working tirelessly to execute the programmes set out at the beginning of its administra-tion in the state.

“The 13-Point Agenda is  clear, a fully mapped out strategy that was created to provide a roadmap for the actualisation of the aspira-tions of the people of Nasarawa State and I can tell you that this is a revolution in the social, economic and political development of Nasarawa State,” he said.

According to him, “When Governor Doma assumed office, he felt it is necessary to identify critical areas that affect the people and that is what the 13-point agenda is all about. All the aspects of the agenda have been worked on extensively from road construction, rural development, urban deve-lopment, agriculture, security to education. These aspects that are very critical.

“The 13 point agenda might look ambitious, but it is what the state really deserves and I am telling you that we have really risen to the occasion.”

He, however, argued that fund is a major challenge to the government, but maintained that the adminis-tration is doing its best to deliver the dividends of democracy.

“The challenge facing the government of Nasarawa state is the lean finances especially from the federation account, notwithstanding we are working very hard courtesy of the governor who prudently manages resources of the state, and from the little that comes our way, we have been able to take the state to another level”.

Speaking on how the state is working to improve its Internally Generated Revenue, (IGR), Abdullahi said the state is intensifying efforts to improve its revenue.

“We are intensifying effort to have well articulated internally generated revenue and we are sure that by the time we begin to reap the dividends, this state will have a formidable revenue base.

Look at Agriculture, this is a major occupation of our people and of recent, the governor launched our Pepa Yam Nigeria in United Kingdom, it attracted very wide acclamation and I should tell you that the result of this exportation of our yam product will not only give us special place among other states, but will also improve the income generation of our people as well as that of the country”.

“Tourism is another aspect that we are really working closely with private and public participation and a lot has been achieved and we are optimistic that by the time our partners come fully into Nasarawa state, the economic situation will be better for us” he stated.

Calling on all Nasarawa citizens to give their support to the government, he said “With the achievements Governor Doma has made so far, it is a clear indication that he meant well for the people of the state and what the people of Nasarawa needs to do is to support and continue to rally round the government so that this work can be made easier”.
