Globacom‘s support for the promotion of a safer and greener environment earned it accolades on Tuesday in Abuja at the formal inauguration of an ambitious initiative to safeguard the Nigerian environment through tree planting.

The event, the launch of the Plant A Tree Today Initiative (PATIN), a concerted effort of Mrs Helen Onma Mark in conjunction with a nationwide network of others concerned advocates for the promotion of good environment, provided another good opportunity for the proudly Nigeria network to have its commitment publicly acknowledged.

Mrs Mark, wife of the Senate President, in her remark at the event praised Globacom for strongly supporting the initiative.““Globacom is graciously leading the way in partnership with the sponsorship of this project”, she said while assuring of effective utilization of the Globacom support, “which has enabled us to take off”.

Explaining the goal of PATTIN, she said the initiative” is setting a modest target of platting one million trees per local government in the first phase of four years.”” She also added that the initiative would be interested in securing the nation‘s diverse ecosystem through a variety of other activities.
Mrs Mark called on everyone to emulate the telecommunications operator and join in ““this drive to save and rule our world””.

Member of the Senate Committee on the Environment, Senator (Lady) Eme Ufot Ekaette praised Globacom’’s support for the project. She said it was not just a coincidence that Globacom chose a green colour for its brand as the colour is nature friendly.““Glo has been nature friendly, their colour is earth friendly”, she said.

In its goodwill message at the event, Globacom said the initiative represented an avenue for Globacom to discharge its social investment obligations especially as it related to “making positive contributions to the development of our environment and improving the quality of lives of our people”.

Mr Dele Folorunsho, Globacom’s Zonal Sales Coordinator for the North who represented the company at the event, said that Globacom had right from its inception demonstrated its love for the preservation of the environment through deliberate choice of environmentally friendly options such as the eco-friendly palm tree base stations which it erected in many cities across the country.The event had in attendance the Minister of the Environment, Mr John Odey and key officials of his ministry, lawmakers, academics and other stakeholders.
