Lawmaker compiles register of illiterates

WARRI—THE member representing Ukwuani Local Government Area in the Delta State House of Assembly, Dr. Alphonsus Ojo, has embarked on house to house registration of illiterate persons in his constituency to ensure education for all by 2020.

Dr. Ojo, who fielded questions from journalists at his country home, Umutu, stated that as a part of his electioneering campaign promises, he was presently on tour of public schools in the area and distributing note books and other educational aids to pupils and students, while 20 indigent students have been awarded scholarships.

The medical practitioner cum lawmaker said he has also embarked on an aggressive empowerment programme across the length and breadth of his constituency in other to impact positively on the lives of the people.

According to him, hundreds of motor cycles and bicycles, generating sets and other equipment have been acquired to provide employment for his people.

In addition to the empowerment process of his people, he said he would do everything within his capacity to improve on their needs and ensure that there is food on their table through the improved agricultural system that would be put in place, “as good food leads to nourishment and sicknesses and diseases find their way out of the people”.
