By Tony Edike

ENUGU —THE suspected kidnappers of Mr. Dan Nwomeh, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Sullivan Chime have demanded a ransom of N200 million for his release, an official of Enugu state government disclosed, yesterday.

The kidnappers were said to have called Nwomeh’s wife last Saturday, exactly a week after he was abducted and allowed her spouse to speak with him, apparently to confirm that he was in their custody.

Nwomeh, was abducted from his Independence Layout residence in Enugu at about 10.30 pm on July 4, while returning from his office at the Government House.

His abductors reportedly demanded from the state government, through his family the sum of N500 million for him to regain his freedom, a request that was turned down.

Three days later, the kidnappers called back with a GSM line and reduced the amount to N200 million and gave the family a deadline to pay the money to ensure Nwomeh’s early release.
