Kano partners Chinese firm on power generation

KANO – Kano State has concluded arrangement with a Chinese firm for the building of a 126 megawatts combustion turbine power plant in the state.

The development is part of sustained effort by Shekarau-led administration in its Independent Power Project designed to boost the energy need of the state.

The state Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Isa Haruna Dederi, told newsmen in Kano that the sum of N247.4 million had been approved by the state government for the purchase of transformers and other electrical materials.

Dederi said additional N100.6 million w ould be released for the electrification of villages and upgrading of sub-stations across the state to enhance the rural transformation initiatives.

The multi billion naira project is also initiated to rejuvenate the Kano economy which suffered from epileptic power supply from the national grid.

The commissioner revealed that a draft bill on revenue administration had been sent to the Assembly, adding that it is intended to consolidate revenue laws in operations.
