Hoodlums attack Abdusalam, Ondo speaker

By Dayo Johnson
THE Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Mr Taofik Abdusalam was weekend attacked by suspected hoodlums allegedly acting on the instruction of two state government functionaries in the state.

The Speaker, Mr Taofik Abdusalam in an interview with Vanguard said he “was attacked by hoodlums in the convoy of the two government functionaries when I was driving round the town to observe compliance with the environmental sanitation exercise which was passed into law by the State House of Assembly.

Eyewitness account told newsmen in Akure that the attack took place at Odi-Olowo junction in Akure when the convoy of the two government functionaries met the Speaker who was driving a personal car.

Eyewitness account said the vehicles in the convoy of one of the government functionaries blocked the road, thereby preventing the speaker from accessing the road.

Vanguard learnt that after the two government officials had left the scene, the hoodlums still blocked the way and ordered him out of the car.

Attempt by the Speaker to leave the scene failed as one of the vehicles was used by the hoodlums to block him and was ordered out of the car.

After he refused, he was pulled out and assaulted and all his effort to identify himself was rebuffed as he was pulled out from his car.

One of the hoodlums was quoted as saying “which yeye speaker is that”. They reportedly banged his vehicle severally while he stood looking at them.

Meanwhile, the Speaker said the ugly incident would be reported to the Assembly when the House resumes from its break

He said, “if that could happen to me as the Speaker, nobody in the state is saved from the hands of the hoodlums” just as he wondered why the government functionaries were going around the state with hoodlums during the monthly environmental exercise.
