Group kicks against automatic 2nd term ticket

Dr. Farouk Abdulazeez, Chairman, Board of Trustees of the new political pressure group, Yar’Adua for New Nigeria (YFONN) has said that the group is against automatic second term ticket for elected political office holders at all levels as it negates the philosophy and ideology behind the formation of the group.

Automatic ticket, according to Dr. Abdulazeez, who is also the chairman of the Yar’Adua political family, is “undemocratic, anti-fair play, anti-justice and anti-people’s fundamental human rights, as it runs against the principles of the rule of law which guarantees freedom, among which are freedom of choice and freedom of participation especially as it concerns elections in a democratic contest’’.

Abdulazeez made this clarification on the heels of misconceptions in some quarters that YFONN was set up primarily to ensure that President Yar’adua gets automatic second term ticket for the 2011 general elections, as he insists that ‘’the aims and objectives of YFONN is explicit and unambigious.

The group was fundamentally formed to promote internal democracy within the political parties, promote free and fair elections, carry out crusade against corruption, campaign for the attitudinal change of Nigerians, sensitise the citizenry on the principles and programmes of President Yar’adua’s seven-point agenda for accelerated national development and good governance, and also other progressive and sublime objectives as contained in YFONN’s aims and objectives as was made public in July 7, 2009.
