Awka – Electricity users in Awka and its environs have expressed  disappointment with the prevailing epileptic power supply by the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).

The consumers, who spoke yesterday expressed regrets that the deteriorating power supply had adversely affected their socio-economic activities.

Mr Samuel Atuegbu, a businessman, said that most business operators in Awka now depended on generating sets.He called on President Umaru Yar’Adua to consider placing electricity on top of his agenda, so that the 6000 megawatts he promised would be achieved.

Other consumers who also spoke urged the Anambra government to complement the efforts of Yar’Adua by establishing Independent Power Projects (IPP).Reacting, however, PHCN Business Manager, Awka Business Unit, Mr Ben Nwaorehu, said the epileptic power supply being witnessed in the state was nationwide, adding that this was due to low generation  from the power source.

“I think we are having it best here in Awka than other areas, but that is not to say we will relent in ensuring that the available power is  distributed to customers equitably,’’ Nwaorehu said.
