EBSU lecturers back ASUU strike

ABAKALIKI—THE Academic Staff Union of University (ASSU) Ebonyi State University (EBSU) chapter, says it is fully in support of the nation wide strike action embark upon by the union to get government sign and implement the agreement reached by both parties.

Chairman of ASUU Ebonyi State University chapter, Dr. Emeka Nwakpu said, weekend, that the chapter had already implemented the decision of the National Working Committee of ASUU, by joining the strike.

Dr. Nwakpu noted that the chapter stands firm on the statement made by the National President of ASUU on why they decided to go on strike, adding that the chapter will not give in to any attempt from any quarter in the state to force them to return to classroom, unless their demands are fully met.

He said, ASUU stands on the search for minimum point, from which the Nigeria university system could make significant progress toward reversing the brain that had deprived our country of a vital causal agency in national development, will not be compromise.

He stressed that the EBSU chapter supports ASUU quest for a minimum of 26% of the annual budget of the Federal and  State government to education.

Nwakpu maintained that proper funding of education will halt the growing inability of the children of the under privilege to acquire qualitative education.

He noted that Nigeria’s university system needs immediate and massive financial intervention in order to fulfill the potentiality, which according to him had been called into question by Nigerians because of it steady decay.
