Don’t engage in propaganda, Agagu tells Mimiko

By Dayo Johnson

AKURE—IMMEDIATE governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Agagu weekend charged the present administration in the state to be sincere enough to acknowledge his good deeds while in office and make attempts to build on such solid foundations instead of engaging in stifling propaganda.

Dr Agagu was reacting to a statement reportedly made by the state government that “all the roads constructed during his six-year tenure “were substandard and of no economic value”.

The State Commissioner for Works, Yele Omogunwa had during an inspection tour of some road projects reportedly rubbished all the roads constructed by the last administration.

Omogunwa was quoted to have said “none of the road constructed by the last administration could be said to be of good quality except the ones inside the state-owned Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo”.

Describing such statement as unfortunate and a disservice to the good people of Ondo State, the former governor charged political office holders in the country to “face the onerous task of governance instead of chasing shadows and causing unnecessary distractions in the polity”.

Dr Agagu urged politicians to differentiate between politics and governance “and rather than raking up the murky waters of politics, to be sincere enough to acknowledge the good deeds of their predecessors in office and make attempts to build on such solid foundations so that our society can grow”.

According to him, “a major bane of governance in this country is the tendency of politicians in government to attempt to rubbish the progress made by past governments. This destroys the principle of continuity in government and retards the growth of our nation”.

The former governor who spoke through the State Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Adeyemi Adedipe said in the six years of his administration, “about one thousand and two hundred kilometers of roads were either rehabilitated or freshly constructed by both the state and local councils”.

“This was unprecedented in the history of the state as all the previous administrations that altogether spanned 27 years did not do half of what we did. These are records that could be verified and I am very sure that if not for mischief, the current government in Ondo State is very much aware of these facts.
