Daniel alleges plot to destabilise Ogun

By Kolade Larewaju
THE intractable political crisis in Ogun State continued to deepen as the Ogun State Government yesterday alleged an evil plot to destabilize the Olugbenga Daniel administration and called on security agencies to come to its aid in checkmating the alleged moves. Addressing newsmen in Abeokuta , the State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Kayode Samuel specifically accused a section of the media of being allowed itself to be used unprofessionally to do hatchet jobs for politicians opposed to Daniel’s administration.

Specifically, Mr. Samuel said a newspaper (not Vanguard) simulated a photograph of Governor Daniel to make him like a Chief Priest and labelling him as a ritualist.

Explaining that the photograph was simulated by imposing the face of Daniel on the photograph of a female actress dressed as a warrior, the Commissioner alleged that there were plans by some people to do the same by super-imposing the head of Daniel on a fake nude body and publish in the newspapers.

He said, “the government of Ogun State has it on good authority that a clandestine meeting took place in the residence of a former governor of a neighbouring state to discuss how to ‘deal’ with Otunba Daniel and his administration. “At the meeting was a motley crowd of failed politicians and their cohorts which include 12 members of the G15 as well as a former Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Ogun State whose responsibility is to effect a computer simulation of fake photographs”.

Samuel who refused categorically to mention the names of those who he was alleging said apart from using the photograph to portray Daniel in a nude posture there would be other ones including the super-imposition of pictures of shrines on his private homes.

Moreover, he said there were also plans to show video clips and publish pictures of fake “PDP Ward Chairmen supposedly taking oath inside these shrines” Some of the photographs, he alleged were already with some media organizations.

He said “it is perfidious and treacherous for anybody to pass off deliberate lies as information to an unsuspecting public. It beats one’s imagination how it has become the stock-in-trade of certain politicians to dress falsehood in the garb of truth.

“We admonish external forces that are the sponsors of G.15 to leave Ogun State alone. In Ogun State, there is no room for moneybags of doubtful provenance who, for lack of something to do, employ certain elements to cause confusion in states of the Southwest.

“We wish to now call on the various security agencies to rise up to the challenge of these unusual times and checkmate all the personalities that are clearly behind the evil plot to destabilize Ogun State. The law should not be a respecter of any person no matter how highly placed.

“We equally want to put the Newspaper Proprietors’ Association of Nigeria [NPAN], the Nigerian Guild of Editors, the Nigeria Union of Journalists and The Ombudsman on alert, to safeguard our noble profession and save journalism from being led into total disrepute and loss of credibility.”
