Community protests sacking of monarch by Abia govt

By  Anayo Okoli

Umuahia—ISI-OBEHIE autonomous community in Ukwa West council, whose traditional ruler, Eze Emmanuel Oforji, was one of the two traditional rulers dethroned a fortnight ago by the Abia state government on  allegation of aiding and abetting kidnapping, has protested against the sack. The community said that its monarch, Eze Oforji was innocent of the allegation made against him.

Abia state government had recently announced the sack  of Eze Oforji and his colleague, Eze Rueben Nworgu of Ihe-Iyi in Uwgunagbo council area, accusing them of constituting a clog in its fight against crime in the state.

But Isi-Obehie autonomous community has exonerated their monarch from the allegation, and challenged the state government to show proof of the allegation. They alleged that the monarch was frame up by the chairman of the council over a misunderstanding on market revenue.

The community described the action of Abia state government as “very embarrassing”, and warned that it could lead to a breach of the peace in the community.

Also, the embattled 79 year old Eze Oforji, has denied  the allegation. He challenged anybody who has any evidence that linked him with kidnapping or any crime at all to come up with same.
