Multiple award-winning singer, Innocent Ujah Idibia on Saturday, June 20, 2009 celebrated his tenth year as a recording and performing artiste with his friends, colleagues, his governor, well-wishers and fans. The said event, which took place at the This Day Dome in Abuja, was organized by Abuja-based Czynegy Promotions and supported by Now Muzik which doubles as 2Face’s management.
The event, tagged Infinit2: A Decade Of Trailblazin , was broken into two: one earlier in the day, The Official 2Face Idibia Anniversary Concert And Charity Launch , which featured 2Face backed by a live band and supported by his friend Sound Sultan, who also performed some of his tracks, while West African Idols runner-up Omawumi performed the Can’t Leave Without You duet off 2Face’s third and most recent solo album The Unstoppable with him. Later in the day, 2Face’s friends in the business were on hand to entertain guests.
Performers included D’Banj, 9ice, MI, Don Jazzy, Timaya, Mo Hits, Omawumi and 2Face reunited with his former group mates Blackface and Faze to perform some of the early Plantashun Boiz hits.
The host of the evening was Dare Art Alade (now known simply as Darey). The singer had a fantastic outing as compere coordinating the event and ensuring that the audience was kept sufficiently entertained.
After comedian AY treated the guests to some laughs, it was time for 2Face to step out and show why he has been on top for the past ten years of active service.
Clad in a shimmery number by Roberto Cavalli, 2Face stepped out to a thunderous applause and proceeded to perform hit song after hit song from his three solo albums. He was joined by his close friend and colleague Sound Sultan with whom he recorded the hit single Enter The Place . 2Face stepped out for a quick change and returned in a red shirt with his native black-and-white colours for a performance with Omawumi. Afterwards he was joined on stage for a quick performance of Street Credibility with 9ice.
The atmosphere changed when 2Face invited Blackface to perform Plantashun Boiz hits. Black had arrived a day to the event to support his friend, colleague and erstwhile band mate while Faze had some business to see to in the South Eastern part of the country was not in Abuja until later in the day.
From this point, it was on to the launch of the TuFace Idibia Reach-Out Foundation , and Mr. John Ochigbo Elanu, co-ordinator of the Foundation, threw more light on the activities of the foundation, after which a beneficiary of the foundation Mr. Odey Adimanye, who has been confined to the use of a wheel-chair, after an auto accident a couple of years back lauded the foundation for taking care of his treatment thus far.
Shortly after, patron of the foundation, and chairman, House committee on Media and Publicity ( Federal House Of Representatives), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, led by way of donations, ably supported by Hon. Dino Melaye, Dr. Rose-Marie David-Mark, wife of the senate president, and Dr.(Mrs) Shekarau, who came all the way from UK, for the launch.
When 2Face got the microphone back and performed his monster hit African Queen , there was absolutely no doubting the reason why the song put the artiste, and indeed Nigeria, on the world map.
All the women (which included 2Face’s mom) who had been sitting on the table in the front got up and formed a semi-circle around the artiste while they danced to the song.
