Zamfara sacks 140 teachers

Gusau — Alhaji Aliyu Anka, Chairman of the Zamfara Universal Basic Education Board (ZSUBEB) said, yesterday, in Gusau that the board has sacked 140 teachers for presenting fake NCE certificates.

Anka told newsmen that the sacked teachers were among some 1,000 teachers recently absorbed by the Zamfara Government.

He said that the government, in an effort to authenticate their certificates, ordered the verification of all results and certificates presented by the teachers from the institutions they claimed to have attended.

The ZSUBEB Chairman said the board had sent the certificates to 20 colleges of education across the country for verification but discovered that some of the teachers submitted fake certificates to gain employment.

Anka also said that the exercise would be extended to all categories of teachers employed by the board to flush out those with fake documents with a view to restoring high standards in education in the state, adding that   the exercise would not spare anybody found to be using fake certificates to teach in the state’s primary and junior secondary schools.
