By Bishop David Oyedepo
Last week, I brought you a teaching on the major profits of God’s Word, where I showed you the importance of God’s Word in fulfilling destiny. This week, I want to show you the nutritional contents of God’s Word and the weapons in the Word.
The nutritional contents of God’s Word: The Word of God not only delivers all the benefits I taught last week, it also nourishes the body. It says: “Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price…hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness. Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.” (Isaiah 55:1-3). God’s Word is loaded with great nutritional values designed for the strengthening of your inner man against the days of battle. Some of these nutrients are:
Water: God’s Word is a fountain of water. Water is for our refreshing, and it keeps us going (John 4:14). The Bible also says in Ephesians 5:26: “That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word.” God’s Word offers us water to refresh our inner man.
Milk: The Word of God is also milk (I Peter 2:2). Milk is for growth. That means your growth is guaranteed by the milk of the Word of God. If you want strength, then you need the milk of the Word of God, which enhances spiritual growth and development.
Meat: Every doctrine of the gospel is meat for the soul (Hebrews 5:14). The strength you get from water is not comparable with the one that comes from milk and the one that comes from milk is not comparable with the one from meat. So, we must outgrow the water level, move unto the milk level, and then unto the meat and strong meat levels of the Word of God.
Honey: The honey level of the Word of God is for exploits (Proverbs 24:13-14). What this means is that you are in command when you gain access to the honey of God’s Word; that is the working knowledge of the truth, which puts you supernaturally in command of the affairs of life. If you want real strength, then reach out for the honey of God’s Word. Talking about the eagle in Deuteronomy 32:9-14, reference is made to the honey, which is the eagle’s food. It is a source of strength for the eagle, which has so much strength that it can carry a weight that is thrice its size!
Wine: God’s Word is loaded with wine (Isaiah 25:6-8). This is when you come under the intoxicating effect of the Word of God. You live under its influence and start doing as occasion serves you. The wine of the Word brings you under the supernatural influence of the Word in your daily life. You live under the influence of the Word and are intoxicated with the truth. In this realm, you are not moved by what you see or hear; you are only moved by the Word of God, with which you approach every issue of life. You cannot live under the influence of the Word and not be in command. When you have the butter, milk and honey of the Word of God, you will decide the happenings in your life, just as Jesus, our perfect example did (Isaiah 7:14-15).
The weapons in the Word:
Hammer: The Word of God says: “Is not my word like as a fire? saith the Lord; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?” (Jeremiah 23:29). Every truth you discover in the Word of God is a spiritual hammer. So, when you say, “It is written,†you are throwing a spiritual sledge hammer at the obstacle on your way, which will break it into pieces.
Fire: The Word of God is also fire that devours every stubble. The Word is not just fire, but a consuming fire. We see this in the story of the three Hebrew boys when they were thrown into the fiery furnace (Daniel 3). The fiery furnace could not consume them, because the fire that consumes fire stepped in! Likewise, when you lay hold on the fire of the Word of God, it will devour every stubble that is responsible for the troubles of your life. No fire of the enemy can have effect on your life, when you lay hold on the Word of God. No wonder, God said: “…When thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.” (Isaiah 43:2).
Rock: God’s Word is also a rock of offence. When you come against it, you are broken into pieces, and when He comes against you, you are ground into powder (Matthew 21:44). When you lay hold on the stone of the Word, you will become an impossible case for the devil. When the devil and his agents come against you, there is trouble; when you come against them, they are devastated! The combination of these three weapons makes you one to be feared and respected!
Friend, the power to use these weapons is available, if you are born again. You become born again by confessing your sins and accepting Jesus as your Saviour and Lord. You can be born again now if you are set, as you say this prayer: “Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins. Today, I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me! Now I know I am born again!”
I will continue this series, next week. May God bless you!
