Jalingo — The Taraba State government has approved the immediate payment of Teachers Salary Structure (TSS) to its teachers.
The State Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Teachers(NUT), Aliyu Jauro Mafindi, made this known in Jalingo yesterday.
He assured the teachers that the implementation of the payment of the TSS would soon commence, stressing that the process of
payment to primary school teachers had reached advanced stage.
Mafindi said the union was monitoring the process of the implementation of the long awaited TSS at the State’s Teachers Service Board and Ministry of Education.
The chairman said the union had set up a mini-committee to authenticate records of primary school teachers.
He remarked that the report of the mini-committee would be submitted to the government for the release of funds.
The chairman, who maintained that the actual payment of the TSS would start from June 2009, expressed optimism that Gov.
Danbaba Suntai would fulfill his promise.
The chairman also advised the Federal Government to urgently re-introduce the Teachers’ Training Colleges (TTCs), stressing that Grade II teachers were better than the NCE holders in terms of effective teaching methods.
