THE Chartered Insurance  Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) was also last weekend installed Mr Sunny Adeda as institute’s  43rd President in the 50 Years of its existence. Mr. Sunny Adeda, takes over the mantle of leadership from Mr. Adeyemo Adejumo. Mr Sunny Oberuomor Adeda born 53years ago is from Ughelli, Ughelli North Local Government, Delta State, Nigeria.

Sunny as he is fondly called started his sojourn through the academic world at St. Stephen’s Primary School, Kano in 1962 and completed his secondary education at James Welch Grammar School , Emevor where he obtained the West African School Certificate in 1970.  He also attended the University of Lagos from 1975 to 1978, graduating with a Bachelor of Science (Bsc) Honours degree in Biology in 1978.

Having found himself in the Insurance Industry, Adeda realized the importance of professional qualifications in his quest to become a successful Insurance practitioner. He studied and passed the qualifying examinations of the Chartered Insurance Institute, United Kingdom in both the Associateship and Fellowship of the Institute. He was elected an Associate of the London Institute in 1983 and a Fellow by examination in 1992.

Presently the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Alpha Choice Insurance Brokers, Mr Adeda has garnered twenty nine years experience in his fulfilling career as an Insurance practitioner.

The sojourn started in 1980 when he joined Nicon Insurance Corporation as a Graduate Trainee. A committed Professional, Sunny Adeda spent his entire life as an employee with the defunct Nicon Insurance Corporation where he rose through the ranks  working in the Life, Aviation and General Accident Departments until he was appointed Executive Director (Technical) on 20th October, 1999, a position he held until July 2006 when he retired voluntarily from the public service.

A strong believer in Continuous Professional Development, he attended many training Courses both within and outside Nigeria which equipped and positioned him above others in Human Resources and Financial Management. He has international experience through interaction with Insurance and Financial Services Professionals from other climes such as South-Africa , Germany , United Kingdom and Switzerland . A very humble, and quiet man, Adeda through dint of hard work served in the Board of Nicon Hotels Limited between 1999 and 2005.

He was first elected to the Council of the Chartered Insurance Institute in 1999. A very active Council Member, he was at various times the Chairman of the Mandatory Continuing Professional Development Committee (MCPD), Vic- Chairman Membership Committee, Chairman College of Insurance and Management Studies, and a member of other committees of Council of the Institute.

Happily married with children, Sunny Adeda is a member of Fountain Hope International, Ikoyi Club, Country Club, Ikeja, Eni Club and IBB International Golf Club, Abuja.
