Standards OrganizationÂ of Nigeria is set to commence a series of activities to kick-start the celebration of the , 2009 in Kano for industries and stakeholders in the NorthernÂ Zone of the country.
A statement from the office of the Director-General, Dr. John Akanya in Abuja said that the programmes are being carried out by the organisation in its bid to continuously educate and inform the public on its activities as it relates to improving the quality of lives of the citizenry and taking the nation to higher standards.
Dr. Akanya emphasised that the programme is aimed among other things, at showcasing the best of SON- certified products of local manufacturers including the Small and Medium Scale Enterprises as well as cottage industries in the annual celebration of quality with a view to increasing their patronage by Nigerians and thus raising capacity utilisation.
The programmes in Kano according to him, will kick-start the series of regional celebrations of quality in 2009 with similar activities scheduled for manufacturers and stakeholders in the Eastern and South-Western zones later in the year.
The SON Director-General stated that the programmes will commence with a procession of Manufacturers of certified products and other stakeholders along the major streets of Kano tagged Walk for Standards on Thursday, June 18, 2009 from the Kano Pillars Stadium.
Other activities, according to him, include a two-day exhibition of Nigerian Industrial Standards (NIS) Certified Made-in-Nigeria products at the Kano International Trade Fair Complex commencing on FridayÂ June 19 and a dinner and award nite to be hosted by the Kano State Government where companies and their products will be presented with certificates and plaques in various categories for the consistent conformity of their products to the requirements of the various standards.
