Police intensify search for kidnapped UNDP official

Enugu— The Police in Enugu have intensified search for the state Coordinator of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Mr Uche Ani, who was kidnapped weekend in Enugu.


Mr Ebele Amaraizu, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Enugu State Police Command said yesterday, in Enugu that the police had introduced new strategies in the search, although he did not give details.

He said the new approach was yielding fruits and that the command would soon make a positive pronouncement on the matter.

Amaraizu, however, declined further comments on the matter, because according to him, any pronouncement may harm on going investigation.

The PPRO, who could not state whether any arrests had been made, expressed optimism that Ani and the kidnappers would soon be found.

Amaraizu said that police in Enugu was “leaving no stones unturned” at checking activities of hoodlums in the area.

“We have made progress in the kidnap of Ani. We have made some discoveries which are yielding fruits. The situation is getting clearer.

“We cannot make any public statements now, because it may jeopardise our investigation, so let us keep our fingers crossed but we are ready to combat all forms of crime headlong in Enugu,’’ he said.
