By Festus Ahon
UGHELLI—TRAGEDY trailed the Ughelli North Local Government Council’s chapter election of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, weekend, following the death of a female staff of the council who died during the election.

The woman who was identified as Mrs. Catherine Igho of the Primary Healthcare department of the council, went into labour at the council’s secretariat hall during the election and was rushed to the Ughelli Central Hospital.

Vanguard gathered that the woman was delivered of a baby girl but died despite the medical attention given to her by doctors.

It was not however clear what led to the death of the promising lady, but a reliable source said the woman could have died out of excessive bleeding.

Reacting to the incident, chairman of the local government chapter of NULGE, Comrade Emohwo Ijolo, described the death of the woman as shocking and painful, saying that the council will forever miss her motherly advice and dedication to duty.

Ijolo who was re-elected for another three years, said the union will play its role during the burial of the deceased and sympathized with her family on the sudden death of the woman whom she described as a staunch member of the union.
