Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Lagos State chapter has expressed its determination to support and collaborate with Lagos State Government in the realisation of its megacity project as well as the on-going development projects.

The outgoing and the incoming chairmen of NIPR, Mrs Alli Balogun and Mr. Jide Ologun respectively gave the assurance yesterday when they led other members of the institute on a courtesy visit to the state Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Mr Opeyemi Bamidele.

NIPR team, while expressing its readiness to assist in propagation of government projects and policies, called on the state government to support it in the area of capacity building by way of sponsorship.

According to them, it became imperative for the institution to work together with the government as parts of its own quota to fast-track development efforts.

Balogun, however, identified capacity building and paucity of funds as major challenges facing the state chapter of NIPR compared to their counterparts in other states.

She noted that Lagos being a role model in developmental projects, it had the strength and wherewithal to support the institution in capacity building by sponsoring training programmes for members.

Her words: “Therefore, we also urge the state government to support us in giving us a land for the building of our permanent site as we are paying huge sum of money as rent. We pay over N1 million every year as rent and other services.

“We also want the state government to assist us too in the development of a modern PR estate. This is a new era and we must march forward.”

In his response, the commissioner commended the institution for offering to partner with the state government at this critical time.

Bamidele while assuring the visiting executive members of the institution stressed that there was the need for attitude change among the society for the state to maintain its forward movement.

His words: “There is the need to bring stakeholders together in order to create a safe city as well as realise the megacity dream. The government will definitely work together with you in every way it can to realise the NIPR and Lagos dreams.”

“Governor Babatunde Fashola is so passionate and committed to the full realisation of megacity project and there is nothing stopping that target. Lagos is working.”Bamidele however, assured the exco members that their request would be communicated through a memorandum to the governor for its prompt attention.
