The Japan International  Cooperation Agency, JICA, has been urged to focus on those factors that would increase production and add value to Nigeria’s raw commodities in the One Local Government One Product programme.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Linus Awut stated this when he received the delegation of JICA led by its Senior Advisor (Private Sector Development), Mr. Ueda Takafumi..
Mr. Awute pointed out that Nigeria has been exporting raw commodities over the years without adding value adding that JICA should focus on a product that can easily find a place in the world market.
He stated that Nigeria believes that the sectors that were very critical for our present quest for economic development are agriculture and industrial sectors noting that there was the need for food processing, storage facilities and auxiliary industries which will provide employment for Nigerians.
He added that they are free to make observations that can bring some adjustments into the process of actualizing the cluster concept for overall good.
The Senior Advisor, JICA, Mr. Ueda Takafumi, stated that the essence of One Local Government One Product programme was to make use of local resources and add value to them as well as making them unique.
