ABAKALIKI—Kidnappers in Ebonyi state have gone on rampage, as they have no fewer than three people in their custody, while the wife of a former Commissioner for Local Government Matters in the state, Francis Okorie, was released and dumped along Enugu-Abakaliki road at about 2 am Tuesday night.
Those still being held by the kidnappers include son of the state Accountant General, Edwin Igbele and son of a Treasurer in one of the local governments in the state.
Much information is not available on the case of the son of the Accountant General, while the case of the son to the LG treasurer is said to have taken the family from Ebonyi to Enugu, Bayelsa and back to Abakaliki as the kidnappers keep directing them around.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Ebonyi, Chris Anyanwu though admitted having heard about the AG son’s case, though in an unofficial circle, he said that he had however, directed his men to investigate the matter.
Anyanwu stated that the case his command handled was that of the rescued Okorie’s wife, which he claimed the police chased the kidnappers until they released her.
However, wife of the former Commissioner and victim of the kidnap, Mrs. Chineyere Okorie, told newsmen that she was kidnapped at a beauty saloon in Abakaliki by two young men she said where about 18-22 years at about 5pm. She said she was forced into her car and driven out of Abakaliki to a communities in old Ohaozara areas of Ebonyi state.
