Joseph Ayodeji quiz competition debuts in Apapa

In its bid to ensure that there is an improvement in the quality of education amongst the pupils of Apapa, the chairman of Apapa Local Government, Honorable Joseph Ayodeji in conjunction with the Apapa Community Fitness Club has announced plans to commence a three day quiz competition that will promote health rivalry as well as challenge the pupils in secondary schools within the local government to aspire more in the area of education.

Speaking at the press briefing to herald the start of the competition, the chairman informed that the initiative is in line with his vision and that of the local government to transform the mind of pupils in the area to better learning and reading culture.

According to him the local government area has been affected by the dwindling fortune of education both in infrastructure and otherwise, hence ‘we have decided that we should create a competition that will expose the children to quality academic challenges that will contribute to the overall development of their minds.

The chairman further expressed his pain by stating clearly that the area did not perform well in the just concluded spelling bee competition which he considered a reference point in measuring the educational standard in the community.

In his address, the Project Manager, Adebayo Abdullahi informed that the quiz will hold between 24 and 27th of June amongst eight sight schools including  Apapa High School, Randle Secondary School, United Christian Secondary School, Sari Iganmu high School, Seagate College, Sacred Heart College, Oloye Comprehensive High School and Star Light College all within Apapa.

The schools selection is a mix of both private and public school to ensure health positive rivalry that will make the all participating school and non participating ones at this period invest in teaching the children well for the future.

Each school will be represented three students in senior secondary school each during the competition that will bring together the eight schools slugging it out for points on league basis.

On the first day of the competition, four public schools from Apapa will compete against each other and the school with the highest point will qualify for the final stage, while on the second day fours private schools will slug it with the school with the highest point meeting the winner of the public school on the third day, the grand finale.

The quiz competition will focus on Mathematics, English language and General knowledge scheduled to hold at the Apapa Local government hall is expected to be graced by top dignitaries with the local government in both private and public sector.

Concluding his address, the chairman reiterated his commitment towards education in the area with reference to the fact that prior to this initiative, the local government has donated buses for free transportation of pupils to and from schools, paid for JAMB forms for 100 pupils, paid for GCE for 100 pupils and provided teachers to for the students, according to him the investment of the local government in the past has been in infrastructure, this initiative is going into the heart of the matter because the buildings we have been repairing and refurbishing will be useless if we do not start involving the students to towards appreciating education.
