Hoodlums invade Vanguard correspondent’s home in Benin

By Gabriel Enogholase
BENIN—ONE of Vanguard newspapers’ correspondents in Benin, Mr. Simon Ebegbulem and his family, on Thursday night escaped death narrowly when hoodlums numbering over ten and armed with dangerous weapons forced their way into his apartment in Ugbor district in the Edo State capital.

Mr. Ebegbulem who was visibly shaken by the incident told Vanguard that the hoodlums forced their way into his apartment after destroying the protector of one of the windows at about 3.am.

“We were asleep when they struck but it was the noise from them that woke us up. They ransacked the apartment and made away with money, three GSM handsets, wedding ring and internet facility.

They also ransacked my car and tried to leave with it but had to abandon it following shoutings from us and our neighbors,” he said.

He was however full of praises to God Almighty for delivering him and his family from the hands of the armed robbers, saying that he would ever remain grateful to God for his mercies as no life was lost during the incident which he described as harrowing .

He has since reported the incident to the State Police command.
