ILORIN — THE Senator Gbemisola Saraki Political Groups have distributed over N4.5 million worth of items to the people as part of activities to mark her birthday.
The groups also made cash donations of N50,000 each to about 20 artisans in the state as an empowerment mechanism and means of improving their respective trades.
About 10 people also benefitted from her vocational training scheme. The training programmes were on computer and polythene nylon making.
The groups visited many charity homes that equally benefitted from the birthday gesture. Some of the charity homes were the School for the Handicapped, Hearth of Gold Children Hospice, Hope Orphanage and Foster Care. Others were four Community Health Centres within Kwara Central Senatorial District and Adult Education Centre at Adewole in Ilorin.
Chairperson of the Groups, Hajiya Risikat Abdullahi, described the activities as a demonstration of appreciation by the people over the selfless services and generosity extended to them by Gbemi in the state. Some of the items distributed were beans, rice, maize, babies wears insecticides, groundnuts oil, drugs and others.
A total of 45 students from primary, secondary and other institutions also benefited from the Senator Gbemi Saraki’s Scholarship Scheme. The Chairman of the occasion, who is a lecturer with the University of Ilorin, Dr. Abdullateef Usman said the senator’s gestures would bring a lot of relief to the parents and wards of those beneficiaries.
The Special Assistant to the Senator on Constituency Matters, Aihaji Ganiyu Galadima said the Senator had awarded contract for the construction of 12 new blocks of class rooms.
He said a borehole had also been allocated to each ward in Kwara Central Senatorial District.
