BENIN—NO fewer than five persons were on Sunday evening burnt to death at the Monastery junction in Ewu, along the ever busy Auchi-Benin road in a ghastly accident involving five vehicles that occurred at about 3.56 pm.
Also, one person was killed in another multiple accident which occurred about 3.30 P.M same day between Ekwuoma and Umunede along Benin-Asaba dual carriage way in Delta State.
Zonal Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Zone 5, Mr. Ndah Zakari, who confirmed both accidents, said that eight persons were involved in the Ewu accident in which three sustained various degrees of injuries and five burnt to death.
He listed vehicles involved to include two tankers, one hilux pick up van, one jeep and a motorcycle.
Commenting on the multiple accidents that occurred between Ekwuoma and Umunede in Delta State, he attributed it to the bursting of one of the tyres in one of the vehicles.
Among the vehicles involved are one Nissan bus with the inscription “ITC†and with registration number IM139A, a 505 Station Wagon with registration number GQ552KJA.
He disclosed that sixteen persons were involved in the accident, including nine males and seven females, adding that while one of the male passengers was killed, five males and two females were injured.
He added that both the dead and the injured were taken to Kife Clinic and Maternity in Umunede.
