FCTA to demolish 500 houses

ABUJA —  As parts of its efforts to sanitize the nation’s capital city, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has marked about 500 structures for demolition in Mpape, a suburb of Abuja.

The FCT Minister, Senator Muhammad Adamu Aliero who disclosed this yesterday in Abuja explained that this action was necessary to sanitise and minimise illegal developments in the area.

Senator Aliero disclosed further that these are structures that have fallen within 100 meter distance to Quarry site in the suburb and must be removed in accordance with the stipulated Town Planning Laws.

According to him, “the FCT Department of Development Control has monitored and marked about 500 structures for demolition in Mpape, having fallen within 100 meter distance to Quarry site”.

Expressing worry over the presence of illegal structures and shanties in Satellite settlements within the Federal Capital Territory, the Minister assured that the FCT Administration is articulating the gradual Urban Renewal in these areas.
