ENUGUâ€”THE defunct Eastern Nigeria House of Assembly in Enugu is to be renovated as part of plans by Enugu State Government to immortalize members of the assembly during the Centenary celebration of Enugu City, slated for December this year.
The old Premier Lodge, Enugu where the first Premier of the Eastern Region and first Nigerian President, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe resided within the Government Reserved Area in the coal city is also to be given a facelift.
Chairman of the Centenary Committee and former Minister of Information and Culture, Chief Nnia Nwodo, who disclosed this while briefing reporters on the programmes for the event, said Governor Sullivan Chime, had approved the the renovation of the two historic monuments, which are aimed at immortalizing leaders of the defunct Eastern Region, who contributed one way or the other to the development of Enugu.
Nwodo, who said that the committee was determined to use the celebration to regain the lost glory of Enugu City, added that the state government had decided to renovate the historical sites in Enugu.
