Edo lady delivers baby boy in Libyan prison

By Simon Ebegbulem
BENIN—One of the  women among the over one thousand Edo State natives languishing in Libyan jail, has given birth to a baby boy in the prison.

It would be recalled that the victims were arrested three months ago while trying to travel to Europe via Libya without genuine documents.

Following the inhuman treatment being meted on them by the Libyan security operatives, they tried to escape last week and over seven persons were said to have died in the process.

Vanguard learnt that some of the deceased were crushed in the desert with jeeps when they were being pursued.

However, one of the inmates, Charles Erawuyi, who spoke to Vanguard on telephone yesterday, said one of the ladies among them delivered last weekend inside the under ground jail and she had been denied any proper medical care.

According to him, “ I think she was pregnant before we found ourselves in this situation. So she delivered in the prison here and we are appealing to them to take her to the hospital, at least for the sake of the innocent child. But they are still being wicked.

That was how they used their jeeps to crush people to death in the desert.

“ Even some of us who volunteered to surrender were killed. It is really very bad here.

We are still appealing to our government to come to our aid. Other countries like Kenya and Gabon have come to take their people away, it is remaining us here. We are appealing, please before we all will die here. Government should come to our aid and secure our release.”
