Umuahia—THE National Chairman of Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA), Chief Clement Ebri has waded into the crisis in the Abia state chapter of the party, which almost created a gulf between the party executive in the state and supporters of Governor Theodore Orji.
The newly appointed chairman of the party in the state, Ezeogo Onuoha had issued a statement banning all groups from canvassing for Governor Orji’s second term, an action which pitched him against the various groups.
Onuoha’s decision caused tension in the state, as the chairman of Isiala Ngwa Local Government Area, Chief Anthony Agbazuere led a group, which openly challenged the decision, which they said was aimed at emasculating democracy in the state.
The party leadership under Ezeogo was not comfortable with Agbazuere challenging its action and had put plans in place to edge him out of the party. The party summoned him before the party’s disciplinary committee.
But Agbazuere refused to appear, but approached an Abia State High Court sitting in Umuahia, which granted him leave to enforce his fundamental rights.
