Ebonyi reads Riot Act to contractors

By Dennis Agbo

ABAKALIKI – Ebonyi State government has charged various contractors executing different contracts in the state to brace up and meet their expected dates of project completion or have them terminated.

Commissioner for Work and Transport, Paul Okorie gave the charge at Eketube Enyigba in Ebonyi South Senatorial District while inspecting a 6 span concrete bridge across Ebonyi River .

Okorie expressed dissatisfaction with the slow pace of work achieved so far despite the fact, that the government is not owing any contractors, reiterating that the state would not shift it completion date as initial agreed with the contractors that stipulated between 18 to 24 months, respectively, but that government would rather terminate and blacklist any erring contractors.

According to Okorie: “I have to make it point blank that at this period that things were very bad globally, we manage to live up to contractual obligation by paying for certificate generated, we would not also hesitate to bring down the sledge hammer on any contractors that fail to delivery on scheduled adding that when that is done, we will evaluate and determine whose are owing who but in view of the plant advance we had paid them we know that they are owning us” he said.
