BENIN—Edo State government has been dragged before a Benin High Court over the dissolution of the Board of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
It would be recalled that members of the dissolved board which has as its members Messrs Stanley Iduoze, Chief Hilary Tom-Otsu and Chief M.I Erohumah, were appointed by Governor Oserheimen Osunbor.
But on coming on board as the governor of the state, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole sacked all political appointees done by Prof. Osunbor.
The dissolved members of SUBEB had, through their counsel, Faith Osadolor Chambers, written to the state House of Assembly preventing the state governor from appointing any persons as board members for SUBEB.
Governor Oshiomhole had, in a letter sent to the lawmakers and dated June 8, 2009, requested for the confirmation of the appointment of chairman and members of SUBEB.
The names forwarded by the governor for SUBEB include Sir J.S Emuabino as Chairman, Mrs. Mabel Adams, Mr. Joe Ikpea and Akhigbe Alemoh who were to serve as members.
The dissolved members urged the lawmakers not to consider any appointment made by the governor during the pendency of action in court.
However, Speaker Zakawanu Garuba said the House could not deliberate upon the appointment of SUBEB because there was a court process on the Board appointment.
