AFRICAN Renaissance party has called on the federal government to implement true federalism as a lasting solution to incessant conflicts in the Niger Delta region. Speaking in Port Harcourt, national Publicity secretary of the party, Chief Omenazu Johnson said under the arrangement, the region should allowed to control fifty percent of its resources.
Omenazu who also lamented the deplorable situation in the Niger region due to long years of neglect said it gave to the rising and sad case of militancy.
He however appealed to other sections of the country to encourage leaders in the Niger Delta to achieve results in its effort at urging youths from the area to shun violence and militancy. According to him, situations where some northern elements chose to label the entire leaders of the Niger Delta region as crooks were sad.
The image maker of the African Renaissance party called for cessation of hostilities in the region, arguing that only dialogue could bring about the much desired peace.
According to him, continued military onslaught would further escalate the level of crises and worsen the situation.
While also calling for implementation of recommendations of various committees on the region which he noted include that of the Niger Delta technical committee, the NDDC master plan etc he used the occasion to reiterate the position of his party for fifty percent derivation/ resource control as the sharing formula in the country.
