DUTSE—Jigawa State Police Command has arrested seven people for alleged connivance to divert hundreds of bags of fertilizer from the government’s store, the Commissioner of Police (CP) in the state, Alhaji Abdullahi S. Fanna, has said.
Confirming the incident, the CP said, the accused persons were arrested in two different places on their way to the markets after they loaded the fertilizer from the stores, adding that his men had arrested three people in Kiyawa LGA of the state with 320 bags of fertilizer which they were alleged to have stolen from the store.
He said the three persons arrested in connection with the stealing include the store keeper, his assistance and one other persons, adding, “4 people were also arrested in Dutse Local Government Area for similar allegation of diverting fertilizer from government store. The accused, the truck used in the deal and the fertilizer are in police custody.â€
He further revealed that, police are currently carrying out investigation on the two cases, and when completed they would charged the accused to court for legal action, reiterated the commitment of his men to ensure that, all the fertilizer procured by the state government for the state farmers are not allowed to be smuggled out side the state or to be diverted for illegal way.
