Three of Nigeria’s top professional golfers- Andrew Oche Odoh, Edet Umoh and Christian Godfrey who will be flying Nigeria’s flag at the Kenya Open will have to foot their bills if the PGA Nigeria Tour fails to secure a sponsor.

PGA Nigeria Tour boss, Sola Lawson came clear on the issue when he revealed to The Golf Course that the players who would be competing in Kenya are representing themselves and thus should not expect any financial assistance from the tour.

“The Kenyan Open is open to individuals. Players represent themselves and so would Andrew Oche, Edet Umoh and Christian Godfrey who were selected to play in the competition courtesy of their position on the PGA ranking. Oche is on the list based on his performance  last year.

“The players  are expected to foot their bills  for the event as they are representing themselves and not necessarily the country.

“What the PGA Tour is doing, is trying to source  for sponsors to help the players  as they take part in the Kenyan Open”, Lawson said.

As the players prepare for the tournament, If any of them believe they would receive financial assistance to compete in Kenya, they should better forget it.
