Elected office holders must fulfil campaign promises before tenure elapsed – Speaker

The Speaker, Kano State House of Assembly, Alhaji Kabiru Rurum, says elected office holders must endeavour to fulfil their campaign promises before the end of their tenure in office.

The speaker spoke in Kano on Saturday during the distribution of empowerment items by the member of the state assembly representing Dawakin Kudu Constituency, Alhaji Ibrahim Dawakiji, to the people of his constituency.

Rurum said, “Elected office holders who fail to fulfil their campaign promises face the possibility of having the electorate turning their back on them during the next election.

“It is only through the fulfillment of campaign promises that the electorate will enjoy the dividend of democracy.”

The speaker commended the member for empowering the teeming youths in his constituency, urging other elected office holders to emulate the gesture.

He advised the beneficiaries of the empowerment to make proper use of the goods received so as to allow others to benefit from subsequent programmes.

In his remarks, Dawakiji said he considered empowerment as part of his responsibilities to his constituents.

He said that empowering the youths, particularly at this moment in time, was a  step  toward making them more self-reliant.

Some of the items distributed include sewing machines, weaving machines, generators and water pumping machines.

Others include local spaghetti machines and tricycles for people with special needs.
