Asuquo Effiong

ABUJA- SENATOR Nelson Asuquo Effiong, Akwa Ibom South on Thursday dumped his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, saying that any politician worth his salt will not remain in PDP.
Senator Effiong who hails from the same senatorial district with his governor, Emmanuel Udom who is of the PDP, said he was moving to APC that according to him, was bringing peace and direction to the country.
Senator Nelson Effiong (Akwa Ibom South) while announcing his defection from the PDP to APC at Thursday’s plenary, said, “I have decided that no reasonable politician who is worth his salt would remain and allow his people to be drifting about without a direction. So I have decided today, the 19th day of January, 2017 to resign from the PDP and move to the party that is bringing peace and direction to this country, the APC. So I move.”
But reacting, the Deputy Minority leader, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha who was at the chambers during the defection, PDP, Taraba South warned Senator Nelson Asuquo Effiong to be mindful of his comments and consequences of his action.
Also in his remarks, Senate Minority leader and former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio who noted that the Senator was free to decamp to APC as an individual, but he should know that he got elected on the platform of a party and not as an individual, adding that there is no crisis in Akwa Ibom PDP, the party is intact and United and would go to court to challenge the decision of Effiong.
It would be recalled that Senator Yele Omogunwa, Ondo South had in November last year dumped the PDP for the APC.
