A two-storey building under construction at 21, Makinde Street, Alausa, Ikeja, collapsed yesterday.

Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, of Lagos State Building Control Agency and Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, moved to the scene in response to a distress call.

The General Manager of LASEMA, Mr. Adesina Tiamiyu, confirmed the incident, saying no life was lost, but that a male adult, who was working at the site, sustained injury and was treated immediately.

Tiamiyu said: “Investigation at the incident scene revealed that the building is a two-storey building under construction and the building was said to have partially collapsed.”

Tiamiyu explained that upon physical assessment, the building’s base tilted sideways as a result of structural defect.

Tiamiyu assured that proper investigation would be conducted on the incident, while the collapsed building would be recovered by controlled demolition so as to ensure utmost safety of lives and properties.

He urged developers of structures in the state to ensure they abide by the building codes and regulations of the state as well as employ the services of certified engineers.
