About 50,000 people are expected in Cleveland this week for the Republican National Convention, at which Donald Trump will be formally nominated to run for the US presidency in November.

Here are a few key facts about the convention, by the numbers:

Cost of the convention for the Republican Party: $64 million

Number of visitors expected in Cleveland: 50,000 including 15,000 journalists and 2,472 delegates (there are also 2,302 alternate delegates)

Number of miles of steel security fences put up for the convention: roughly 3.7 (six kilometers)

Security personnel: 5,500 — 3,000 federal agents, 500 Cleveland police and 2,000 non-federal reinforcements

Number of groups expected to protest, some of them several times: 58 (which could translate into thousands of protesters)

Number of beds in local jails and other detention facilities available in case of major arrests: 1,000

Number of signs welcoming visitors to the convention: 1,000

Number of balloons that will drop from the ceiling of the Quicken Loans Arena when Trump formally accepts the nomination on Thursday: 125,000
