ABEOKUTA—Tragedy struck yesterday in Onifufu/Aberuagba compound, Oke-Ijeun in Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State, when a dilapidated building fell on a pregnant woman and her daughter, killing them instantly.

The incident occurred when the woman, Kafayat Somoye, who was reported to be three months  pregnant, was reportedly taking her two children; Ganiyat and Ganiyu  Somoye to school  in the morning.

Vanguard gathered that while the boy, Ganiyu, escaped unhurt from the falling wall, both the mother and the five-year-old Ganiyat were unlucky as they were trapped.

It was gathered that the woman was rescued by the people in the area, and was being rushed to a general hospital in Ijaye, a stone’s throw to the scene, before she gave up the ghost.

When Vanguard visited the scene, their remains were seen lying on the ground and the girl, dressed in her school uniform. was still holding a candy she was licking on her way to the school.

Police officers from Oke- Itoku and Ibara divisions were seen on ground to prevent breakdown of law and order as angry youths made attempts to burn down the remaining part of the building.
