Onuesoke
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Chief Sunny Onuesoke has commended human rights activist, Alex Okunbor, for dragging the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) and All Progressives Congress (APC) to court to restrain them from conducting fresh primary to elect a new gubernatorial candidate for the Kogi State supplementary election.
Onuesoke, who made the commendation during a visit to Okunbor in Asaba, Delta State, argued that for the fact that the APC governorship, Audu Abubakar, died in the process of the election, it is justifiable to automatically pronounce the PDP candidate the winner of the Kogi election.
He wondered under what basis is INEC asking APC to conduct another primary for the election when the period of conducting the exercise had expired as enshrined in the Constitution.
“INEC action is unconstitutional. There is no basis for INEC to ask the APC to conduct another primary. Primaries were conducted before the election.
And if it happened that the APC governorship candidate died in the process, it would be normal to automatically give victory to PDP candidate Idris Wada as governor,” Onuesoke argued.
It would be recalled that Okunbor dragged INEC and APC to the Federal High Court, Abuja, seeking the stoppage of another of Kogi governorship election after the demise of the APC candidate.
