OWERRI—Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha, has sacked the transition committees of the 27 local government areas of the state.
Governor Okorocha also approved the immediate suspension of the chairmen and members of Imo State House of Assembly Service Commission and the State Civil Service Commission.
According to a press statement by the Principal Secretary to the governor, Dr. Paschal Obi, the sacking of the transition committees and suspension of the statutory commissions are with immediate effect.
Although government did not give any reason in the Government House statement for taking the drastic decisions, Okorocha, however, ordered the sacked transition committee chairmen to properly hand over the reigns of office to directors of administration and general services in their respective councils.
In a similar development, the suspended chairmen and members of the statutory commissions were directed to hand over all government property in their care to the permanent secretaries on or before the close of work today.
While some close political watchers in the state said the development was not unexpected, others, however, reasoned that it might be a cost saving device for the administration.
