DELTA State Government has appointed consultants with a view to upgrading facilities at the multi billion naira Asaba International Airport project, which was downgraded by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA about two months ago.
The State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa who disclosed this paid an unscheduled visit to the airport, Friday evening, said the State government was determined to complete the Airport and put it into full use.
Warning against shady jobs, Okowa said he would not hesitate to fire the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Works, Engr Dona Umukoro should he mislead government on the execution of the airport project. He added that as a governor he would not override the permanent secretary whom he said is a specialist in the engineering field.
The Governor called on the contractors to meet with the officials of Ministry of Works to streamline their activities to ensure early completion of the job, insisting that he should be properly briefed to enable him know the true situation of the airport.
“This is a specialized area, I want you (contractors) to meet with the Ministry of Works, I want to be properly briefed on progress of work”, the Governor said, emphasising, “I believe we are on course, I am here to see the basics”.
